The Queen is Dead...

Long live the future iteration of the Queen's English Car Show!

Don't despair! Moss Motors is taking over the show...afterall, EVERY car there is a customer...and they should do a great job.

Sunday, 28 April 2024 marked the end of an era. For some 15 years or so, we've been helping out at the biggest all British carshow in SoCal. Marianne and the girls worked registration, I oversaw the Jumble Sale area, parking vendors and doing my best to keep them happy. Not easy with the later arrivals not liking to be in the back row. Shoulda got there earlier.

This, like the even longer running Best of France and Italy shows were always low-key events. Not big awards, no charity to "support" nothing but a nice day out in a (usually) pretty park with people who shared an interest in the weird, wacky, and even rather mundane.

A trove of Triumphs, a mess of MGs, lots of Lotises (Lotii?), a jumble of JagUars, a range of Rovers, a smattering of Sunbeams (some of which were NOT Tigers!), a mass of Morgans, and the list goes on.

In years past such examples of English Qurikyness included 3 wheeled Bonds, Rovers, Hillmans, and the occasional Aston Martin. This year, the Showcase area had a Wolesley, an Alvis, a Singer, a Slough-built Citroen Traction-Avant (ex-RNZAF staff car!), a Daimler SP250,  and (GASP) an Armstrong-Siddley. WHAAA?

The poor Blue Meanie sitll didn't make an appearance, I'm workin' on it...really! Still, I decked out the Yellow Submarine in all it's Beatles Glory and sold some books at the Jumble Sale.

So, with dreams of a last Steak and Kidney Pie from the Robin Hood Pub in NoHo for the annual thank you dinner. It's a fond farewell to working a much beloved car show and MANY thanks to Tina, Chuck, and Sam for organizing such a great event over the years!

What a Wolesley!

And yes, the Armstrong-Siddley!

Singer wasn't an English sewing machine!

Alvis is STILL in the building!

Daimler V-8...and not a small block Chevy or even a BOP...it was their own engine!
